By 1967 Fairey Marine had been building fast motorboats based on the Ray Hunt hull for 10 years, Alan Burnard had ideas on how to improve their performance at sea, he built his own race boat Sea Fox to prove his thoughts on a finer entry forefoot. He was right. He added a flared bow for a dryer ride and the Huntsman 31 was born.

Its a curious thing that of all the Fairey motorboats, the Huntsman 31 is the best hull at sea, yet the boat they sold fewest of and the boat that has suffered the ravages of time the most.
